Pre amalgamation
Before They Were Winnipeg
As early as 1960, discussions began around amalgamating Winnipeg with its surrounding towns and cities were taking place. Fast forward to 1972, and all 13 surrounding communities now formed the new City of Winnipeg.
Although amalgamation was not complete until 1974, several Police Departments began to join forces years earlier. Movements meant new numbers, new ranks and new policies.
